Grandma Moses –American Painter

Docent training on January 28th    (For February)   Training session is held in the library at 7:00PM.

moses1Grandma Moses was born in Upstate New York in 1860 and died in 1961. Her real name was Anna Mary Moses. She was a painter, but did not begin making art until she was in her 70’s. She had been a dedicated wife, mother, farmer, and business woman for most of her life, and it was only until one of her sons took over the farm that she began painting. Because Grandma Moses had no formal training as an artist, her style was simple and direct, and became known as “Primitive Art”. Her career as a painter lasted for more than 2 decades, over the course of which she completed 1,600 pieces.
