GRACE Arts for 2017-2018 school year

August 30th, 2017 No comments

Welcome back for the 2017-2018 school year!   If you haven’t been involved, please consider helping. A parent volunteer doesn’t need to know anything about art. It doesn’t even take much time. Just sign up, and show up to support your child’s classroom (only 3 times per year for an hour). The Art topic, teaching materials, media support, project, and supplies are all pre-planned and provided on our Grace Arts supply cart. This is a great way to learn about your child’s day at school, meet their friends, and their teacher.   -Plus, your child’s reaction to your walking into their classroom for the hour is a great repayment.  :)

Please tell your child’s teacher you want to help, or reach out to Rachel… (Her contact information is at the right side of this screen). We’ll try to add a list soon, of the specific grades/classrooms that do not have ANY volunteers.

GRACE Arts is a Greater Reston Arts Center’s parent volunteer program sponsored by the PTA at Dranesville Elementary. Parents are trained to teach one hour art sessions in the classroom. Each session covers a specific artist or genre of art. The parent will discuss the artist or genre and show a projected presentation, then instruct the students in a hands-on project. In the classroom, one parent teaches and at least one parent assists. For each project, we collect samples and display them for the entire school to enjoy.

Parent volunteers and the classroom teachers can discuss a suitable time for the sessions. Docent Training Sessions are held in the library at 7:00PM.  If you cannot attend training, it’s okay, you can still help, or try to sit in on another class before you take it on yourself.

Here’s the training dates for 2017-18  (all of them are Thursday dates)
